At the leading real estate fair Mipim in fashionable Cannes, there were hardly any Dutch exhibitors to be found. However, Dutch could be heard everywhere along the Croisette, the famous boulevard along the Mediterranean. Because being at the Cannes fair makes sense!

You don't have to be on the trade show floor, according to the stories of real estate men who met each other in the sunshine with a glass in hand. "This is one big reunion!" said Amsterdam real estate man André Snippe in the spring sun. "We all come here to lobby!"

So did Siep Jan Riedstra, who once bought a few catering establishments in the Netherlands with the idea that FGH bank would finance them: "'Congratulations, but we don't finance catering'," the bank said! A friend said: 'Come with me to Mipim, then you'll solve it.' There, at a reception, I spoke to someone from FGH and they still didn't want to. 'Then you have to take those letters off your roof,' I said. 'FGH: Finances Hospitality.' He laughed terribly and I got my mortgage. See, if you have a drink together like this, it's a lot easier!"

TV real estate agent Harry Mens rented a private jet to come and make recordings with his daughter Suze for their program Business Class. Her husband, the Ukrainian honorary consul Emiel de Sévrèn Jacquet, flew along for the day. As did asset manager Martine Hafkamp, who promoted real estate as a good investment, Senator Jeroen de Vries, who left the Dutch Senate after June 6, and Frisian real estate man Jacob Paas.

Haar Mens, the Ukrainian honorary consul Emiel de Sévrèn Jacquet, flew back and forth for the day. Also present were Wealth Manager Martine Hafkamp, who promoted real estate as a good investment, Senator Jeroen de Vries, who will leave the Dutch Senate after June 6, and the Frisian real estate man Jacob Paas.

"Jacob wanted to bring two relationships," Mens said at the table in the Long Beach beach club, filled with noisy business chatter. "I said, 'If you pay for lunch!'" Thus Bastiaan Smit also joined the table, who, together with the hospitality couple Willem-Karel and Martine Hirschfeld, is taking over the famous Friese Hotel Oostergoo in Grou from Marcel Oost and his wife Annemarie.

Eduard Schaepman, entrepreneur of Tribes, a flexible office space rental company, suddenly got up from the table. "Going to the stock market," he said surprisingly. After half an hour, he returned and said, "I met someone who was at the stock market, but I didn't feel like buying a ticket. I said, 'Come outside.' There, on the street, we signed the contract for my 21st Tribes location. Now I am in four countries!"

He did not expect to close the deal so quickly, nor for such a low price: "The fact that I am offered one property after another here shows what the rising interest rates are doing to the real estate world."
