Inspiring colleague Mark Alkema
by Tribes Inspiring Workplaces, on 8 Nov 2019
Inspiring colleague of this week is Mark Alkema, Host at The Hague Central Station. Mark joined the team in July 2019 to strengthen us one day a week. Mark has autism, and sometimes suffers from very light epileptic seizures. He came to us via Philadephia, an organization that helps people like Mark with work-related daytime activities, in a safe environment. Mark helps the The Hague team with setting up meeting rooms, preparing lunches, doing small cleaning tasks and stock keeping. We're very happy that Mark is part of the team!
On his first day, Mark was very excited to go to Tribes. He took Tram 6 and was immediately enthusiastic: ''I loved the atmosphere, and especially the beautiful pictures of my favorite Hero-Tribe Maori!'' He was also a little nervous, but only on his first day. Now, he really likes to serve coffee to the members because 'the contact with the lovely guests is the best about my job, besides working with Kelly and Victor'. Mark still remembers the night that he and the team went our for sushi, together with a Tribes member, which was a great evening!
Besides his job at Tribes, Mark loves soccer: to play the game with friends, or to watch a game of his favorite soccer club Feyenoord. He especially likes to go to Feyenoord matches with his father, and like true supporters, they have season tickets for home games. But he also loves cycling with friends and family, reading books or making a puzzle. He never leaves the house without two puzzle books; and he's very good at making them.
We at Tribes are very happy with Mark's help, being a wonderful colleague, and we hope that he's happy with us too!
