The Origin Story of Tribes Inspiring Workplaces

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work from anywhere in the world?
Origins in Nomadic Heritage
In February 2015, Eduard Schaepman had an epiphany that would change the way we view the traditional office space forever. Together with Jasper Bekkering, he founded Tribes, a revolutionary concept that caters to the needs of modern-day business nomads. Let's take a journey back in time to discover the roots of Tribes and how it all began!
Eduard Schaepman's family heritage has a unique twist: they were shepherds by origin, exhibiting a nomadic lifestyle that involved moving with their sheep to fertile areas. Before he passed away, Eduard's father made a special request to update the family's pedigree for the patrician booklet, also known as the blue booklet. This task sparked an interesting realization for Eduard - the similarity between his family's nomadic past and the current lifestyle of mobile workers.
The Birth of the 35th Tribe: A Home for Modern Business Nomads
In our fast-paced, interconnected world, many professionals find themselves constantly on the move. Today, you might be working in Amsterdam, and tomorrow, you could have a meeting scheduled in Frankfurt. With the power of technology, as long as you have access to Wi-Fi, a laptop, and a phone, you can work from virtually anywhere. Recognizing this new breed of modern nomads, Eduard envisioned a novel concept - The 35th Tribe, the community of business nomads who no longer required a conventional office space but still craved the connection with others.
Humans have always needed social connection, and that desire is as old as time itself. Eduard created the Tribes idea to provide these business travellers a place to call home. The goal was to design areas that suited the particular requirements of these individuals, providing a feeling of community and encouraging a collaborative atmosphere.
A Journey Inspired by Ancient Tribes and a Vision for the Future
Eduard's fascination with nomadic lifestyles did not stop with his own family's history. He observed remarkable parallels with traditional nomadic tribes around the world. For instance, he discovered that the Kazakh tribe had a history of flying with eagles - a practice that predates our modern drone technology. The rich wisdom and knowledge of these ancient tribes inspired Eduard to believe that there was much to learn from them.
With a grand vision in mind, Eduard knew he needed the right partner for this adventure. Jasper Bekkering, with his vast experience in ICT and finances, proved to be the perfect match. Together, they harnessed their strengths and brought the Tribes concept to life.
In February 2015, the Tribes concept officially launched, and just a few months later the very first Tribes branch was opened. Tribes rapidly attracted like-minded business nomads looking for a place to work, communicate, and connect with others. Tribes began opening more branches, each embracing the spirit of contemporary nomadism and promoting a feeling of community.
Embrace the Tribe: Your Path to Modern Nomadism
Tribes is a powerful representation of creativity, teamwork, and belonging for the current generation of business nomads. It symbolises the values of prehistoric tribes, where helping each other and shared knowledge served as the foundations of healthy societies. Like the nomads who travelled across the globe in search of fresh chances and experiences, Tribes' journey continues to change and adapt to the continuously shifting demands of their members.
Creativity can come from the unlikeliest of sources, in this case, a familial tradition and the remnants of long-extinct tribes. The desire for human connection and the freedom to work without boundaries fuel the success of Tribes, making it a true home for the modern business nomad. So, whether you're flying with eagles or exploring new opportunities, the Tribes community welcomes you with open arms. Embrace the spirit of modern nomadism and join the tribe today!
