Five tips to keep your business going
Many business nomads are working from home at the moment. But not everyone is used to work from home. You can’t interact with other members in the open spaces, and there is less inspiration. Well, good thing that the latter is our specialty! So, we will provide you with five tips for working at home efficiently and productive.
1. Ensure a good workplace
It is vital to create a silent and comfortable workplace at home where you can fully concentrate on your work. Make sure that you have a good desk, comfortable chair and enough daylight. Share your work schedule with your roommates (if you have any). You don’t want to get interrupted in the middle of an important call with a client. Close the door and put on some inspiring music.
We prefer to switch from workplace every now and then, when we work at a Tribes location, by going from a private office to the co-working lounge. So, if you have plenty of space, you can also try to switch the environment. For example, you can work in your kitchen for a few hours, or get cozy in front of the fire place ;).
2. Work together with co-workers
Stay in touch with your co-workers, even if they are not around. Not seeing your co-workers can result in misunderstanding. Communication is therefore key. Luckily, we live in the 21th century and there are enough options to stay connected. Give each other a call, create a WhatsApp group or try Skype/Facetime to update each other and let your colleagues know what you are working on.
3. Work with a schedule
When you work from home it is tempting to clean your house or wash your clothes. If it’s that messy that you’ll get distracted by you daily tasks, schedule a few minutes in your calendar for those duties. After you’ve finished your laundry for example, you can continue to focus your business with a clear mind.
4. Digital solutions
Although you work from home, you’ll probably still need to work together on documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. There are a lot of digital solutions that can help you and your colleagues to work efficiently. For example, Google Drive is a convenient and transparent way of sharing files, and Microsoft also offers several solutions. Another, free tool to create simple lists is Trello.com.
5. Informal contact with co-workers
The office is more than just a great place to work. It’s a meeting place, a community for like-minded professionals. This should be the same case with remote working. Instead of chit-chatting at the common spaces (co-working area), you could video call with colleagues and ask each other how they are doing.
